Wilson is 8-2 against Exeter Township since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will square off against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Wilson 2.7, Exeter Township 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Wilson fell victim to Muhlenberg and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They fell just short of the Muhls by a score of 1-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their meetings with the Muhls: they've now lost three in a row.
Wilson saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Marmolejos, who went 2-for-7 with one stolen base and one double.
Meanwhile, Exeter Township entered their tilt with Daniel Boone on Monday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They put the hurt on the Blazers with a sharp 12-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won six matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Gavin Miller tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jake Hafer and Carter Redding did most of the damage at the plate: Hafer went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Redding scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Redding has posted since back in March. Matt Woram was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Exeter Township pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wilson, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wilson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Exeter Township struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wilson was able to grind out a solid win over Exeter Township in their previous meeting back in March, winning 11-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
