Even though the Harrison Panthers scored an imposing 63 points on Tuesday, the Palmer Terrors still came out on top. Palmer took their match against the Panthers 76-63. Given Palmer's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while the Panthers are ranked 102nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Palmer's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Walker Asp led the charge by scoring 18 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Asp has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ayden Yunker, who scored 17 points along with seven assists and three steals.
Despite the defeat, Harrison saw an underclassman step up: Jeilo Hamenyimana scored 33 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hamenyimana has scored all season. Kenneth Jones jr was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Palmer's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-2. As for Harrison, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Palmer will take on the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Canon City is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak. As for Harrison, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Coronado focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
