The Chilhowie Warriors will square off against the Holston Cavaliers at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Chilhowie 3.3, Holston 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Chilhowie easily dispatched Rural Retreat last Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Warriors fell just short of Honaker by a score of 6-4 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Warriors have suffered since May 20, 2024.
Madi Preston made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Payton Hester, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Holston posted their closest victory since April 14th on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Rural Retreat 3-1. The Cavaliers haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Rily Cobler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie Remine, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Holston pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Chilhowie, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-3.
Chilhowie came out on top in a nail-biter against Holston in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 12-10. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
