After a string of three wins, the Yerington Lions's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 45-44 to West Wendover. Yerington has struggled against West Wendover recently, as their match on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Yerington lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kp Picotte jr, who scored 11 points along with three steals. Picotte jr is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games he's played. Noah Thom was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
West Wendover was led to victory by Adryan Carlos and Osvaldo Carrillo. Carlos scored 13 points along with nine rebounds, while Carrillo dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. Carrillo hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Adrian Martinez, who scored six points.
Yerington's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-8. As for West Wendover, they pushed their record up to 12-4 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home.
Yerington will head out on the road to take on Battle Mountain at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Battle Mountain is ranked 61st, while Yerington is ranked 60th). As for West Wendover, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Oasis Academy at 3:30 p.m.
