The Yuma Criminals suffered their closest loss yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Shadow Mountain by a score of 24-21. Yuma was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Shadow Mountain apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Shadow Mountain found their leader in underclassman Cheyenne Hanna, who scored nine points along with six steals and three blocks. That's the first time this season that Hanna posted two or more blocks. Tess Newport was another key contributor, scoring three points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Yuma has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Shadow Mountain, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-12.
Yuma will be playing at home against Cibola at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Cibola is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for Shadow Mountain, they will challenge Thunderbird at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Thunderbird presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Shadow Mountain in Arizona (Thunderbird is ranked 128th, while Shadow Mountain is ranked 258th).
