The Stansbury Stallions will challenge the Murray Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Stansbury will head into Friday's match on the come-up: they were handed a three-point defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Hillcrest on Friday. Stansbury simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Hillcrest 46-14 on the road.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Murray). They took their contest on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 51-17 victory over Tooele. The win was nothing new for the Spartans as they're now sitting on three straight.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Sam Pehrson and Vaughn Gritzmacher. Pehrson had a great game and rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. Meanwhile, Gritzmacher was balling out in the loss, rushing for 76 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Murray was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 285 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tooele only rushed for 189.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Murray, adding 15 points to the final score. All came courtesy of Dillon Curtis: he went 3-for-3 kicking field goals for nine points, and 6-for-6 kicking extra points for an additional six.
Stansbury has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Murray, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-3.
