The Huntingtown Hurricanes will challenge the Leonardtown Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Huntingtown will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Back in December of 2024, Huntingtown needed a bit of extra time to put away McDonough. They walked away with a 53-45 win over the Rams.
Huntingtown got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Autumn Harrod out in front who went 9 of 18 on her way to 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Ripple, who posted 12 points in addition to six boards and five steals.
Huntingtown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Leonardtown's strategy against McDonough on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Leonardtown blew McDonough out of the water with a 60-14 final score. The Raiders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 24 points or more this season.
Leonardtown had a senior duo take command as Gretchen Fleck went 5 of 12 on her way to 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals and Allie Robrecht went 5 of 7 on her way to 10 points and eight rebounds. Fleck is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Eva Weller, who put up six points.
Leonardtown's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Huntingtown, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Huntingtown has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 47.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Leonardtown struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37.9 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Huntingtown couldn't quite finish off Leonardtown in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 and fell 37-35. Will Huntingtown have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
