Basketball Recap: Cumberland Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Kyleigh Mclemore and Raegan Beecroft

Cumberland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 46-39 to the Grantsburg Pirates. The Beavers lost against the Pirates in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 56-27 score last time.

Despite the defeat, Cumberland had strong showings from Raegan Beecroft, who posted four points in addition to 11 rebounds and seven steals, and Kyleigh McLemore, who had 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals. McLemore has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

Cumberland's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Grantsburg, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cumberland will square off against St. Croix Falls at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Grantsburg, they will head out to square off against Clear Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
