Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Salem

Salem had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They blew past the Patrick Henry Patriots 12-0. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by six runs or more this season.

Cora Robinson and Cora Sparger made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Robinson pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sparger pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Robinson went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Sparger went 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Evie Van Liew was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Kayden Dalton was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

Salem lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Salem's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-4-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Patrick Henry, they are on a 19-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-23.

Salem has already played their next match, a 6-1 victory against Pulaski County on the 20th. Patrick Henry does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
