Vashon Island has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against The Cascade Christian Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Vashon Island will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Washington Rankings (they are ranked 274th, while Cascade Christian is ranked 93rd).
After soaring to 35 points the game before, Vashon Island were a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They were outmatched by Granite Falls at home and fell 52-7.
Meanwhile, everything went Cascade Christian's way against Life Christian Academy on Saturday as Cascade Christian made off with a 36-13 win. The result was nothing new for Cascade Christian, who have now won five matches by 20 points or more so far this season.
Jack Tangen continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 135 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Byson Vasquez, who gained 92 total yards and a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Life Christian Academy to a paltry 177 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Cascade Christian's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out eight times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Torin Carpenter and his two sacks.
Cascade Christian's victory bumped their season record to 6-1 while Vashon Island's defeat dropped theirs to 1-5.
Vashon Island took a serious blow against Cascade Christian in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 71-0. Can Vashon Island avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
