Softball Recap: Good Samaritan Homeschool Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Good Samaritan HomeSchool had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Spurger on Friday. The Good Samaritan HomeSchool Hornets were the clear victor by a 7-1 margin over the Spurger Pirates. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

Kinley Fife made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 20 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Fife wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Abigail Freeman, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Avery Schultz also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Good Samaritan HomeSchool pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 10.43 hits in those games compared to only five in the others. As for Spurger, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5-1.

Looking ahead, Good Samaritan HomeSchool will look to defend their home field on Monday against Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool 2.3, Good Samaritan HomeSchool 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Spurger, they will head out to challenge Hull-Daisetta at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hull-Daisetta has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.91 runs per game on average), something Spurger will no doubt try to take advantage of.
