Reagan is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Friday. After each having a week off, they and the Northwest Guilford Vikings will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. Reagan will be strutting in after a win while Northwest Guilford will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Friday, Reagan sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 24-21 victory over Lake Norman.
Reagan's success was spearheaded by the efforts of John Evans Jr., who gained 224 total yards and a touchdown, and Jacob Smith, who rushed for 39 yards and two scores. Those two rushing touchdowns gave Smith a new career-high.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Reagan was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 237 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Norman only rushed for 132.

Reagan's defense stepped up as well, laying out Kaden Craft four times. King Kalama was especially locked on to Lake Norman's QB and sacked him three times. Thanks to that big game, Kalama is now up to 5.5 sacks on the season.
Meanwhile, Northwest Guilford was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 29-27 heartbreaker at the hands of Mount Tabor. On the bright side, the 27- point performance marked the Vikings' highest-scoring game to date.
Reagan will have to keep a close watch on Rakem Hammock and Ferrell Price, a pair of players who had a big impact on Northwest Guilford's prior game. Hammock picked up 176 receiving yards and one TD, while Price threw for 316 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per attempt. Adam Reavis also deserves some recognition as he posted his first receiving yards of the season.
Northwest Guilford's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Reagan, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Reagan has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 198.4 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Northwest Guilford, though, as they've been averaging only 41 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Reagan against Northwest Guilford when the teams last played back in October of 2019, as the team secured a 62-15 victory. In that contest, the Raiders amassed a halftime lead of 35-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
