Sara Bjornson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hailey Nicoson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Glacier faced Butte in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Wolfpack were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Bulldogs. The Wolfpack might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.
Ava Grady made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Grady was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addyson Cunningham, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since April 3rd. Taelor Holt was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Glacier hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.
Big Sky's record now sits at 9-3. As for Glacier, their record is now an identical 9-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Big Sky hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.3 home runs per game. However, it's not like Glacier struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Big Sky came up short against Glacier in their previous matchup on April 3rd, falling 12-9. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
