Pen Argyl has gone a perfect 9-0 against Notre Dame recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Green Knights will look to defend their home field against the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. The last four games Pen Argyl has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Tuesday, Pen Argyl didn't have quite enough to beat Wilson Area and fell 4-3.
Pen Argyl saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cayden Vishnesky, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one RBI. Jaxx Billiard also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three match, Notre Dame brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They never let Lincoln Leadership Academy get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Spartans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Aidan Acosta was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Notre Dame got a big performance out of Daniel Bordas, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Bordas has become a key player for the Spartans: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-6 otherwise. John Siciliano was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Pen Argyl's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-6-1. As for Notre Dame, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pen Argyl has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Notre Dame struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Pen Argyl took their win against Notre Dame in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-0 score. Will the Green Knights repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
