Madisonville-North Hopkins and Caldwell County are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Maroons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Madisonville-North Hopkins will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
On Monday, Madisonville-North Hopkins needed a bit of extra time to put away Ohio County. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 7-4. While the Maroons didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Evan Wilson and Ryder Sandidge did most of the damage at the plate: Wilson scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Sandidge scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. That's the most hits Wilson has posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Caldwell County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Everything went their way against Marshall County on Monday as they made off with an 8-1 win. Considering the Tigers have won seven matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Channing Puckett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Caldwell County let Ari Wells and Drew Stevens run wild. Wells scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Stevens scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
Caldwell County pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average this season. As for Madisonville-North Hopkins, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Madisonville-North Hopkins has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Caldwell County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Madisonville-North Hopkins couldn't quite finish off Caldwell County in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 11-9. Can the Maroons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
