The McCutcheon Mavericks will head out to face off against the Twin Lakes Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. McCutcheon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, McCutcheon came up short against Guerin Catholic and fell 8-4.
Jon Riley was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Aiden Riser, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Twin Lakes waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Red Devils 12-6. 12 seems to be a good number for the Indians as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Austin Robertson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cooper Dold, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Mason Brummett was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Twin Lakes was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
The win got Twin Lakes back to even at 4-4. As for McCutcheon, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
Twin Lakes' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: McCutcheon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. It's a different story for Twin Lakes, though, as they've only averaged .248. Will they be able to contain McCutcheon's hitters?
McCutcheon took their victory against Twin Lakes in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 14-0 score. Will the Mavericks repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
