The Rocky Mountain Lutheran Eagles will challenge the Denver Waldorf Spartans at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Rocky Mountain Lutheran and three for Denver Waldorf.
On Tuesday, Rocky Mountain Lutheran came up short against Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Victory and fell 28-18. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Knights 7-2 in the first quarter.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Katy Shade, who posted six points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Emma Schlittenhart, who had a point along with five rebounds and five steals.
Even though they lost, Rocky Mountain Lutheran smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Denver Waldorf played a tough contest on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Arickaree and fell 56-21. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-7.
Rocky Mountain Lutheran will have to contain Annie O'Meara as she made an impact in Denver Waldorf's last game. She put up eight points in addition to eight boards and three blocks. The dominant performance gave O'Meara a new career-high in rebounds. Havi Flores also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Denver Waldorf now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Rocky Mountain Lutheran, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Rocky Mountain Lutheran has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 25.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Denver Waldorf struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Rocky Mountain Lutheran against Denver Waldorf in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 48-19 victory. In that game, Rocky Mountain Lutheran amassed a halftime lead of 30-10, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
