The Manchester Squires fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Wabash Apaches on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 51-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Apaches. Manchester's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Manchester lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brookelynn Buzzard, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Buzzard is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Gracie Lauer, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and four steals.
Kaitlynn Honeycutt was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with seven steals for Wabash. Honeycutt is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Kierra Wilson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals and two blocks.
Manchester's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Wabash, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season.
Manchester will be playing in front of their home fans against Churubusco at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Churubusco is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Wabash, Wabash and Maconaquah will face off at 7:45 p.m. on January 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Indiana (Maconaquah is ranked 217th, while Wabash is ranked 220th).
