Baseball Game Preview: Falls Lake Firebirds vs. Wakefield Wolverines

The Falls Lake Firebirds will challenge the Wakefield Wolverines at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Wakefield took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Falls Lake, who comes in off a win.

While Firebirds fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Tuesday's season opener. They blew past Southern School of Energy and Sustainability 24-0 on Tuesday.

Jacob Watson and Nick Denny made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Watson struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Denny pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the first time Watson hasn't allowed a single hit since back in March of 2024. At bat, Watson got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI, while Denny scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Watson a new career-high in hits (three).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavin Blake, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Kace Obriant was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Falls Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .778. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern School of Energy and Sustainability only posted an OBP of .188.

Meanwhile, Wakefield lost 10-1 to Leesville Road on Wednesday.

Wakefield saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Rotellini, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.

Falls Lake came up short against Wakefield in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 5-0. Can Falls Lake avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
