Basketball Recap: Reno Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Reno waltzed into their match on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They secured a 49-44 W over the Corcoran Panthers. Given the Huskies' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 12th in Nevada, while the Panthers are ranked 296th in California), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Johnavin Evans had an outrageously good game as he went 7 for 12 on his way to 17 points in addition to five assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Eric Platz, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 12 points and three steals.

Reno smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Julian Fernandez, who posted 11 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jesse Guerrero, who put up nine points.

Reno's record is now 8-1. As for Corcoran, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-3.

Reno wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 99-38 win against Owyhee on the 26th. As for Corcoran, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 76-52 victory against Edison on the 27th.
