If The Mathis Pirates were riding high off their 22-0 takedown of the Aransas Pass Panthers last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Mathis was dealt a 49-16 defeat at the hands of Edna on Thursday. Mathis has struggled against Edna recently, as their contest on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Mathis saw an underclassman step up: Edward Montemayor rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.0 yards per carry.
Mathis' loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 8.0 points per game. As for Edna, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2-1 record this season.
Mathis will head out on the road to face off against London at 7:30 p.m. on November 3rd. As for Edna, they will look to defend their home field on November 3rd against Aransas Pass at 7:30 p.m. Aransas Pass is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
