Hobbton and North Duplin are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rebels at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hobbton is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
Hobbton gave up the first points on Friday, but they didn't give up any more after. They came out on top against Lakewood by a score of 20-7.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Amir Tate and Calvin Lacewell Jr. Tate had a great game and rushed for 121 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries. Meanwhile, Lacewell Jr did his best for the losing side, rushing for 89 yards, while also throwing for five yards and one TD.
Meanwhile, North Duplin fell victim to East Columbus and their airtight defense on Friday. They took a blow against the Gators, falling 78-0. Despite 353 more yards than the Gators, the Rebels couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Hobbton will have to contain Carell Phillips as he made an impact in North Duplin's last game. He rushed for 251 yards and four scores while picking up 11.4 yards per carry. Phillips really tore up the turf during one magnificent 76-yard run.
Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 1.6 yards per carry. While two picked up at least eight total tackles, Quan Stevens stood above the rest. He rushed for 24 yards and one touchdown. North Duplin didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 11.4.
North Duplin didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Garris Warren and Holden Williams.
Hobbton's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for North Duplin, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Hobbton has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 327.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like North Duplin struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 330.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Hobbton couldn't quite finish off North Duplin in their previous matchup back in November of 2024 and fell 34-31. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Phillips, who rushed for 266 yards and four TDs while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Now that the Wildcats know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
