Baseball Recap: Southwest's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Southwest extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 17-5-1 in the process. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Southwest Legacy Titans, sneaking past 4-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-4 back in March.

Alex Rico spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Romeo Castillo was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Joaquin Zamora, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Southwest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southwest Legacy only posted an OBP of .160.

As for Southwest Legacy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season. They just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row.

On Southwest Legacy's side, Desmius Rodriguez was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Nate Araiza, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
