The Walnut Mustangs waltzed into their game Tuesday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They pulled ahead with a 47-46 photo finish over Rowland. Given Walnut's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 228th, while Rowland is ranked 499th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Isaiah Leon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Myles Wainwright, who scored ten points along with five assists.
Walnut has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Rowland, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walnut will face off against South Hills at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. South Hills is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Rowland, they will head out on the road to face off against Los Altos at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Los Altos' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine matchups.
