The Lely Trojans had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.2 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Monday. Everything went their way against Golden Gate as Lely made off with a 53-27 victory. Given Lely's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 208th, while Golden Gate is ranked 459th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lely was led to victory by Sofiia Kiritsa and Oleksandra Rubanova. Kiritsa scored 14 points along with four steals, while Rubanova scored 17 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rubanova has scored all season. Hulyessha Prudhomme was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, Golden Gate saw an underclassman step up: Aisha Petithomme scored eight points.
Lely's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-8. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.4 points per game. As for Golden Gate, their loss dropped their record down to 5-13.
Lely will head out on the road to square off against Estero at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Estero is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak. As for Golden Gate, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Bonita Springs at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
