After a string of four wins, the Brackenridge Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 58-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Alamo Heights. While losing is never fun, Brackenridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 607th, while Alamo Heights is ranked 225th).
When it comes to explaining why Brackenridge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alasia Brown. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 40.4% of Brackenridge's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sky Lopez, who scored five points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Alamo Heights to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sophia Zadel, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Zadel hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Berkley Hart, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and five steals.
Brackenridge's defeat dropped their record down to 14-13. As for Alamo Heights, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.
Brackenridge will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Highlands at 6:30 p.m. As for Alamo Heights, they will head out on the road to challenge Sam Houston at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
