Lafayette is 0-7 against Union County since April of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Hornets will host the Fighting Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Lafayette has given up an average of 12.7 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Lafayette came up short against Columbia on Tuesday, falling 13-2.
Copelyn Johnson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Union County entered their tilt with Bell on Monday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Bulldogs. Considering the Fighting Tigers have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Emma Handley made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Handley was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2025.
In other batting news, Union County let Mia Kent and Leanne Dicks run wild. Kent went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Dicks went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those three hits gave Kent a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaydin Alvarez, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.
Union County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Union County's victory bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Lafayette, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.
