Softball Game Preview: Fruitvale Bobcats vs. Cumby Trojans

For the second straight game, Fruitvale will face off against Cumby. The Bobcats will be playing at home against the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Fruitvale is headed into the game having just posted their closest victory since February 22nd on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Cumby 6-5.

Kyla Bain made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

Bain wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Holly Hance, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.

Fruitvale's win bumped their record up to 7-9-1. As for Cumby, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-13.

Cumby's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Fruitvale has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Cumby, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Fruitvale keep running through batters, or will the Trojans buck the trend?
