Abernathy has gone 7-1 against Lockney recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Abernathy Antelopes will look to defend their home field against the Lockney Longhorns at 11:00 a.m. Abernathy has given up an average of 10.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Abernathy came up short against Liberty on Tuesday, falling 16-5. The Antelopes haven't had much luck with the Patriots recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Scotlann Bickel made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-2. Natalie Romo was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Even though they lost, Abernathy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .394 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Lockney had to endure a nine-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Morton on Monday as Lockney made off with an 18-1 win. With that victory, the Longhorns brought their scoring average up to 7.1 runs per game.
Madison Marmolejo was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Joscelin Guerrero was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Tori Luna, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Lockney's win bumped their record up to 2-9. As for Abernathy, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Abernathy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .423. However, it's not like Lockney struggles in that department as they've averaged .418. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Abernathy took their victory against Lockney when the teams last played last Saturday by a conclusive 14-3. Will Abernathy repeat their success, or does Lockney have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
