Urbana had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 4-12 to make it six. They came up short against the Richwoods Knights, falling 9-3. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 19, 2022, but that streak is no more.
Lizzy Lange put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off nine hits. Lange was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Zakiyah Primm was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
As for Richwoods, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-14. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games.
Like Urbana, Richwoods also got a great game from a two-way player: Cici Robinson. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Robinson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Paige Sarraf was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Lydia Day, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Urbana and Richwoods could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Tigers will square off against Peoria Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (489 vs. 207). Meanwhile, Richwoods (ranked 427th) will meet Eureka (ranked 129th) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
