The Smidt Tech Grey Wolves will look to defend their home court on Thursday against The School of Los Angeles at 3:30 p.m. Smidt Tech will be strutting in after a victory while The School of Los Angeles will be coming in after a defeat.
Even though Smidt Tech has not done well against Animo De La Hoya recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Smidt Tech narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Animo De La Hoya 56-53.
Smidt Tech found their leader in underclassman Aaron Merlos, who scored 25 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Merlos has scored at least 25% of Smidt Tech's points. Another player making a difference was Leo Pena, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, The School of Los Angeles couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell 36-26 to Los Angeles Leadership Academy on Thursday.
Alliance Marine-Innovation & Technology's victory bumped their season record to 0-0 while Smidt Tech's loss dropped theirs to 1-5.
