Hagerstown and Centerville are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Tigers will take on the Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Hagerstown will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
On Wednesday, Hagerstown made easy work of Winchester Community and carried off a 12-3 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by six runs or more this season.
Rylan Young made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Mackenzee Johnson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April. Coley Parrish also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.
Hagerstown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Winchester Community only managed five hits.
Meanwhile, Centerville waltzed into their matchup on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Golden Falcons.
Like Hagerstown, Centerville also got a great game from a two-way player: Aubrey Seifer. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Seifer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Seifer wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Haven Walter, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Hannah Beaman was another, going 3-for-4 with one run.
Hagerstown is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Centerville, they pushed their record up to 13-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.
Both Hagerstown and Centerville just can't seem to miss. The Tigers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Centerville struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hagerstown was able to grind out a solid win over Centerville in their previous matchup back in April, winning 5-2. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
