If the Wadley Bulldogs were feeling good off their 56-29 takedown of the Alabama School for the Deaf Silent Warriors on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Wadley took a 70-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Horseshoe Bend on Friday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wadley in their matchups with Horseshoe Bend: they've now lost six in a row.
Wadley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaquez Wilkes, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Wilkes scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of JaBari Burns, who scored two points along with 17 rebounds and six assists.
Even though they lost, Wadley were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Wadley's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-3. As for Horseshoe Bend, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wadley will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Faith Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Horseshoe Bend will be home for the holidays to greet Central of Clay County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Central of Clay County will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
