Central Aroostook extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 1-6 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-9 heartbreaker at the hands of the Madawaska Owls. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Owls this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-3 two weeks ago.
Ben Woodworth was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Trace Kinney, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for Madawaska, they now have a winning record of 3-2. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
On Madawaska's side, Matt Ayotte and Isaac Beaulieu made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Ayotte struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Beaulieu pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Ayotte got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run, while Beaulieu went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That double was Beaulieu's first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashton Guerrette, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Cyr, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
When Central Aroostook and Madawaska next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Panthers will try to stop Fort Fairfield's five-game winning streak when they meet at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Madawaska will square off against Washburn and their three-game winning streak at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
