Basketball Recap: Goleman Falls Despite Big Games from Frudrias Porter and Franki Sosa

Goleman blew Marathon out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Marathon got their revenge. The Goleman Gators fell just short of the Marathon Dolphins by a score of 56-53. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Gators came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 344th, while the Dolphins are ranked 698th).

Franki Sosa and Frudrias Porter certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Sosa almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards, while Porter dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Sosa's evening made it 13 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kevin Lamarche, who posted seven points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Goleman smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Leading Marathon to victory were Daeshawn Holmes and Briggs Roberts. Holmes dropped a double-double on 19 points and 18 boards, while Roberts dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. That's the most rebounds Roberts has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Lezcano, who put up 13 points and six boards.

Goleman's defeat dropped their record down to 14-6. As for Marathon, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-13.

Goleman has already played their next contest, a 66-44 victory against Hialeah Gardens on the 24th. As for Marathon, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 53-42 win against Coral Shores on the 24th.
