After flying high against the Jarrell Cougars on Friday, the Taylor Ducks came back down to earth. Taylor took a 47-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Stony Point. Taylor was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Stony Point apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.
Taylor's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Asia Zachary, who scored 14 points. The game was Zachary's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Kionayh Rivers was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Stony Point was led to victory by Leann Bellow and Naomi Ofunrein. Bellow dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Ofunrein scored 14 points along with 7 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Ofunrein has scored at least 25% of Stony Point's points. Another player making a difference was Sarah Apricio, who scored 7 points.
The last time Taylor won on the road was back last Tuesday. Having now lost four straight away games, they've bumped their record down to 2-4. As for Stony Point, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Taylor will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Thrall at 2:00 p.m. Hopefully Thrall focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Monday. As for Stony Point, they will take on Antonian Prep at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Antonian Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Stony Point likes a good challenge.
