Union County is a perfect 3-0 against North Marion since March of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Union County Fightin' Tigers will host the North Marion Colts at 7:00 p.m. Union County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Union County's tournament run continued when they took on Chiefland on Saturday. Union County put the hurt on Chiefland with a sharp 9-2 win. That's two games straight that the Fightin' Tigers have won by exactly seven runs.
Leanne Dicks and Emma Handley made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Dicks pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Handley tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. What's more, Dicks gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024. At the plate, Dicks went 1-for-2 with two RBI, while Handley scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Campbell Webb, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Courtney Manning, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, North Marion was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 12-2 to Suwannee.
North Marion saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ariana Turski, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Union County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 10.4 hits in those games compared to only 5.6 in the others. North Marion's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Union County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like North Marion struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Union County's way against North Marion when the teams last played on Tuesday, as Union County made off with a 19-1 victory. Will Union County repeat their success, or does North Marion have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
