Baseball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Southport's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

Southport won against Warren Central on Thursday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. The Cardinals walked away with a 10-5 victory over the Greenwood Woodmen. For the Cardinals, this counts as revenge for the 13-0 win the Woodmen walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Riley Matlock and Nick Godsey did most of the damage at the plate: Matlock went 2-for-4 with three runs and one double, while Godsey got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Those three runs gave Matlock a new career-high.

Southport has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Greenwood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Southport will venture away from home to take on Columbus East at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals are facing the Olympians at the right time seeing as the Olympians are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Greenwood, they will welcome Mooresville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
