Lake Region is 9-1 against Lake Wales since March of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Thunder will be playing at home against the Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. Lake Region will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Lake Region is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They never let New Smyrna Beach get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Thunder, who have now won 15 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Makenna Meadows made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kirsten Aldridge, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Zoelis Rosa was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Lake Region hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lake Wales, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. Everything went their way against Rockledge on Wednesday as they made off with an 8-2 win.
Anna Conroy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.
On the hitting side, Mattie Cockrell and Keira Davis did most of the damage at the plate: Cockrell got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI, while Davis went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Lake Region's victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Wales, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season.
Both Lake Region and Lake Wales just can't seem to miss. The Thunder have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Lake Wales struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lake Region beat Lake Wales 4-1 in their previous matchup last Thursday. Do the Thunder have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Highlanders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
