Softball Recap: Cienega Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Victory

Cienega waltzed into their game on Thursday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. Everything went their way against the Nogales Apaches as they made off with a 14-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won 15 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Maya Fimbres was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cienega let Micaela Valenzuela and Allison Mullen run wild. Valenzuela went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Mullen went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases Valenzuela has posted since back in February. Alexa Yarger was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Cienega was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .364 or higher in eight consecutive matchups.

Cienega's record is now 16-10. As for Nogales, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-16.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cienega will take on Desert View at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Nogales, they will face off against Tucson High Magnet School at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Badgers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Apaches' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
