This season hasn't been kind to the Poteau Pirates, who are still winless after their fifth matchup. They fell 50-40 to Talihina on Saturday. Poteau was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Talihina apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
It was another big night for Kaidon Potts, who scored 22 points for Talihina. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Landen Griffith , who scored eight points along with seven assists.
Poteau bumped their record down to 0-5 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Talihina, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Poteau's road trip will continue as they head out to face Checotah at 6:00 p.m. on December 19th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Oklahoma (Checotah is ranked 353rd, while Poteau is ranked 337th). Talihina will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Heavener at 7:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024.
