4A Northern recap Oct. 23, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Greeley West, who took down 134th ranked Greeley Central, 24-6.
Windsor extended the longest winning streak in 4A Northern this week by beating Mountain View, 35-7. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Forrest Wetterstrom threw for 242 yards and two touchdowns. He was 16-23 with one interceptions.
John Freismuth was the best wideout in the league this week as Loveland bested Thompson Valley. Freismuth racked up four receptions for 104 yards. Ryan McCloughan helped Loveland's passing attack out by catching one ball for 12 yards.
Drew Bunday made the biggest impact on defense this week as Windsor defeated the Mountain Lions. The 5-foot-11 defensive back grabbed one interception.
Joe Sanger was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 118 yards as Chris Jones' team bested the Eagles. Teammate Blake Bunday added to the ground attack by rushing for 79 yards.
Niwot's Nathan Merriman and Elijah Noterman have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A Northern in both passing and receiving yards. Merriman has thrown for 1671 yards this season, while Noterman, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 22 catches for 496 yards. Mountain View's Jeremiah Clymer leads the league in rushing yards with 853.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Longmont takes on Loveland. As it stands, the Trojans are in third, while John Poovey's team is in fourth.
The Indians and Thompson Valley played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with the Indians eventually emerging with a 24-19 victory. Mike Zweigle threw for 126 yards and one touchdown and ran for 13 yards in the win.
