The Granger Lancers are taking a road trip to face off against the West Jordan Jaguars at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Granger has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while West Jordan will arrive with four straight victories.
Granger will face West Jordan after dropping another heartbreaker against Hunter on Wednesday, which marked the second time in a row the team's come within 2.1 of beating them. The Lancers lost 18-4 to the Wolverines.
Granger saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alyiana Arriaga, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Mackenzie Salazar was another, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, West Jordan put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They never let Kearns get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. Considering the Jaguars have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Rita Tavita made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Arianna Fjeldsted, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hailey Fox, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
West Jordan hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kearns struck out nine times.
Granger's loss dropped their record down to 4-15. As for West Jordan, their victory bumped their record up to 12-3.
Granger suffered a grim 25-6 defeat to West Jordan in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Lancers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
