Baseball Game Preview: Edison Golden Bears vs. Lanier Voks

Edison has gone 9-1 against Lanier recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Golden Bears will be playing in front of their home fans against the Voks at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Edison has eight straight victories, Lanier has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Edison's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Sam Houston as they made off with a 15-0 win. Considering the Golden Bears have won six games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Xavier Martinez was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. Those 15 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Edison let Noah Soto and Tristen Henderson run wild. Soto scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Henderson scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two runs gave Soto a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Javier Herrera, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, Lanier fell victim to Jefferson and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 17-0 to the Mustangs.

Edison's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Lanier, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11-1.

Edison took their victory against Lanier in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 21-0 score. Will the Golden Bears repeat their success, or do the Voks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
