Softball Recap: Three Straight Home Wins for Sandia

Sandia had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 17-run drubbing they dealt Bernalillo on Friday. Sandia never let Bernalillo get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. The Matadors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by ten runs or more this season.

Sandia got a massive performance out of Liliana Villanueva, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Villanueva continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Lola Valentin also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Sandia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .677. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

Sandia pushed their record up to 7-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Bernalillo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.

Looking ahead, Sandia will take on Volcano Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Bernalillo, they will welcome Hope Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
