The Lakeside Lions on the road again on Wednesday and play against West Seattle at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Hopefully Lakeside is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than West Seattle in Washington (Lakeside is ranked eighth, while West Seattle is ranked 117th).
Lakeside suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Saturday. Their rough 60-38 defeat to Garfield might stick with them for a while. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Lakeside has suffered against Garfield since January 5, 2019.
Meanwhile, West Seattle had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They secured a 50-45 W over Bishop Blanchet on Saturday.
West Seattle relied on the efforts of Alyssa Neumann, who scored seven points along with 22 rebounds and three blocks, and Carmen Cruz, who scored 25 points along with two steals and two blocks. Cruz continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Seneca Lucas, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Lakeside's defeat dropped their record down to 10-2. As for West Seattle, their win bumped their record up to 8-9.
Everything came up roses for Lakeside against West Seattle in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 63-34 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lakeside since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
