The Bronson Eagles will face off against the St. John Lutheran Saints at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Bronson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Bronson turned things around against Eastside on Friday. They blew past the Rams 11-1.
Braden Bower made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Bower was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Cayden McVey was incredible, going 1-for-2 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Cooper Howard was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.
Bronson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastside only posted an OBP of .227.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday St. John Lutheran sidestepped Crescent City for a 7-6 win.
Like Bronson, St. John Lutheran also got a great game from a two-way player: Bryce Disimile. Throwing, Disimile struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs but no hits. Meanwhile, Christian Bessoni struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Disimile earned two runs and three stolen bases, while Bessoni went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Luis Roman and Will Spellman did most of the damage at the plate: Roman went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI, while Spellman went 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. Spellman has become a key player for St. John Lutheran: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Adam Stillwell, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Bronson's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for St. John Lutheran, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bronson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like St. John Lutheran struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Bronson suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to St. John Lutheran in their previous meeting last Thursday. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
