Softball Recap: Edison Comes Up Short

Edison dropped their record down to 5-13-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the McCollum Cowboys, falling 16-0. If the Golden Bears were looking for revenge after losing 10-6 to the Cowboys when the teams met back in April of 2016, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for McCollum, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-5. Considering they have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For McCollum's part, RUIZ MADELYNN and SORAYA TORRES made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, MADELYNN pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, TORRES pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. MADELYNN has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, MADELYNN went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double, while TORRES went 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI MADELYNN has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, MARTINEZ LAUREN was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of LORENA GONZALEZ, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run.

While Edison had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
