The Islands Sharks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by Benedictine 79-51. While losing is never fun, Islands can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 375th, while Benedictine is ranked 136th).
Islands' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Braylen Butterworth, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds, and Spencer Shipley who scored ten points along with two steals. Carson Kurdys was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
It was another big night for Caleb Jones, who scored 40 points along with six rebounds and five steals for Benedictine. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jones has scored all season. Another player making a difference was LaDon Bryant, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds.
Islands dropped their record down to 6-10 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Benedictine, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Islands on the road again on Friday and play against Southeast Bulloch at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Southeast Bulloch is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games. As for Benedictine, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Burke County at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Burke County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday.
