The Cedar Grove Saints came tearing into Thursday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Douglass by a score of 57-50. The score was all tied up 22-22 at the break, but Cedar Grove was the better team in the second half.
Cedar Grove found their leader in underclassman Emmanuel Green, who scored 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dontavius Stringfield, who scored ten points.
Douglass' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Mickell, who scored 17 points. Another player making a difference was Joshua Mickell, who scored nine points along with seven assists and three steals.
Cedar Grove has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Douglass, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-9.
Cedar Grove will be playing at home against Sandy Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sandy Creek has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 361 points over their last five games. As for Douglass, they will head out on the road to take on Carver at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Carver will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 499th, while Douglass is ranked 97th).
